The most fun you can have on 2 wheels

Before 2009 the Xbox Live Arcade was pretty much just an excuse to re-hash old games with pretty visuals and hope that some die hard fans would spend their MS points to re-live their youth.

August 2009 and the 2nd Xbox Live Summer of Arcade brought about the RedLynx developed game Trials HD.

The main aim of the game is to get from the start of the level to the end over, through and under a number of obstacles as fast as possible and with as few crashes as possible. The player must balance and control their speed so that they do not fall off their bike.

The game uses 3d graphics but is played on a 2d plane so the player can only move forwards, backwards, up or down. This keeps the controls very simple only needed the Right trigger for accelerate and left trigger for break.

There are a variety of tracks from five different difficulties from beginner to extreme each with a tutorial at the beginning of each difficulty level. Replay value comes from returning to each track to record a faster time.

There are an additional 12 skill games which consist of various challenges from riding inside and on top of a large spherical cage, to transporting two large missiles as far across a level as possible before they detonate. As with the race tracks above the skill games have a leader board in which you can compare your efforts to those of your xbox live buddies.

When I first played this game I was instantly taken back to my childhood and reminded of the television series ‘kick start’ (kids ask your Dad)

I think once you get used to the controls and the mechanics of the game then you can perform some outrageous ‘x-games’ style stunts it’s very easy to be hooked.
